Microsoft Outlook may warn that messages contain potentially unsafe attachments after attachments have been removed.

Applies To:

AESS 5.0

Conditions / Symptoms

If the ‘keep paperclip icon’ feature is turned on, Microsoft Outlook may report in messages that have had attachments removed, “Outlook blocked access to the following potentially unsafe attachments:”.  The attachments listed will have the file extension “.lnk”.

Issue / Cause

In order to keep paperclip icons on messages after attachments have been moved, Attachment Executive Server Side places very small shortcut link files in the messages.  These link (“.lnk”) files are the same as shortcuts you might create on your desktop.

Work Around / Fix

No work around or fix is required.  This is normal behavior.
