Article Topic:

Directory Assistant web pages may fail with an error that they cannot create a file because the path was not found.

Applies To:

Directory Assistant 5.0 for Exchange 4.0, 5.0, 5.5.
Directory Assistant 5.0 for Exchange 2000, 2003.

Conditions / Symptoms

When you attempt to access the Directory Assistant web pages, you receive an error message similar to:

"Could not create the file 'c:\inetpub\wwwroot\DA\DA\Temp\In\48394938401.dat'. Path not found."

The path that is listed in the error message will incorrectly have two "DA" folders listed.

Issue / Cause

This issue is caused by creating an application in the "DA" web folder.  This causes the Internet Information Server to append an extra "DA" to the path that is given to Directory Assistant.

Work Around / Fix

- Open the Internet Information Server Manager console.

- View the properties of the web folder that holds the Directory Assistant web pages.  By default this folder is named "DA".

- Select the "Directory" tab.

- Locate the section labelled "Application Settings"

- The entry for "Starting point:" should say "<Default Web Site>".  If an application has been created, this entry may say "<Default Web Site>\DA".

- If an application has been created, click on the "Remove" button.
