MAPI initialization failed

Conditions / Symptoms

One or more of the E-mail Management Server service log files report the following:

An operation called in the mail system failed. (0; 16000040)
MAPI could not be initialized on this machine. Please refer to: http://www.MADSolutions.com/ES/PSA/PSA100309.htm. (0; 11000003)
MAPI initialization failed

Issue / Cause

This error occurs when the Messaging Application Programming Interface is not available on the machine that the E-mail Management Server Service is running on. 

Work Around / Fix

To enable MAPI on machines that do not have MAPI installed, download the "Microsoft Exchange Server MAPI Client and Collaboration Data Objects 1.2.1" located at: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=e17e7f31-079a-43a9-bff2-0a110307611e&displaylang=en and install it on the appropriate system.
